I bought Jared a home brew kit for Valentine's day, and last night he was as excited as a kid on Christmas to bottle it after two weeks of fermenting. When he asked me to help him by adding the necessary amount of sugar to each bottle to give the beer carbonation, I happily obliged, but somehow my ears heard 1.5tsp when apparently he said 2.5tsp. So, I unknowingly put the wrong amount of sugar in each bottle, Jared sealed them, and we left them to sit for another week.
Well this morning when we realized my (our) mistake, you would've thought someone died by the look on Jared's face. When I told him I was sorry, he responded with, "I feel like I just miscarried my beer. It has been growing in the womb for two weeks and I've been so excited for it to come to full term, and now it's ruined." Hahaha...seriously??
So after a frantic call to the "Mr. Beer" customer service line, they told us we could try to add the extra tsp of sugar, because if we didn't the beer would be flat by the end of it's brewing cycle. However, they couldn't guarantee our end result would be successful. We'll just have to wait and see.
So as we speak, Jared is in the kitchen trying for "baby #2" as he starts his second batch of beer, and I guarantee he won't ask for my help this time. Lesson learned: don't come between a man and his beer!
Before his heart was broken, still so full of hope...
