Day Trippers

On Saturday we took advantage of the fact that Jared had the weekend off (since he only gets two of those per month) by taking a day trip to Winston-Salem, NC, which is about 80 minutes north of Charlotte. This town is famous for its historic involvement in the tobacco industry (via. R.J. Reynolds tobacco), but we were drawn by word of its "Old Salem" district, which is a historic Moravian Church community from 1750 - 1850. The old buildings in the district have been turned into small museums, and you are able to tour the houses and shops while interacting with actors dressed in their historical clothing and explaining their daily life and trade.

On the way to Salem, we ended up pulling off the freeway when we saw signs for Childress Vineyards. We had heard of North Carolina's "wine country" and had been meaning to visit some of the vineyards, so it was the perfect opportunity to see what NC Wines had to offer. The vineyard was beautiful and we had fun touring the winery, shopping in their shop and tasting wine (well...Jared tasted while I mostly smelled his pours and helped him pick out a bottle to crack open in celebration once the baby is born!).
