Who is Layne Davis?

As you can probably already tell from his pictures, little Layne already has a lot of personality. He amazed us in his first days of life by how alert he was right away, and as a result we've been able to get a lot of great pictures of him with his eyes open and making some of the great facial expressions we see everyday.  Here are some of the things we've noticed about Layne since we met him 27 days ago...

  • He LOVES his hands by his face, and usually has his hands by his ears when he sleeps. This has been true since he was in the womb, as he was always covering his face with his hands in ultrasound pictures.
  • He already loves music like his daddy, and is very easily soothed by one of us singing or by Jared's record player. This week Jared put on some Steely Dan and danced around Layne in his arms, while he stared contently at Jared right in the eyes the whole time with the slightest smile on his face. It was so sweet.
  • Like his mom, he has quite the array of facial expressions, but is best known for his pucker with those big beautiful lips!
  • He has yet to uncontrollably cry for no reason, so luckily for us any cries are easily soothed by a diaper change, feeding, tight swaddle or paci. Although he does hate having his diaper or clothes changed, and when he really belts it out his cries sound like he is screaming, "Okay! Okay!"
  • He already seems pretty bright, and loves to study black & white pictures and objects around the house, including some flash cards that I have printed out. There is a black & white photograph of the Mulin Rouge on the wall above the sofa, and whenever we are in that area he will turn his head as far as he can to stare at that picture. He just loves it!
  • He makes some crazy noises that most humans could not replicate, from gremlin grunts to squeaks to sweet laughing sounds. Most correlate with something he is doing or something he wants - my favorite sounds are his pre-meal hungry "arghhhh" grunts, mid-meal squeaks and post-meal coos, and my least favorite noises are his mid-sleep piggy grunts in the middle of the night.
  • Layne needs a good 5 minutes to stretch and collect himself after he wakes up. An example is in the below post....
  • His favorite awake past times besides eating are flash cards, singing the wheels on the bus & watching the mobile in his crib.
Who can resist those cheeks & chin...

Not a huge fan of his swing

Chilling in his crib, watching his mobile

The pucker

My favorite side profile on the planet
