First Night in Hospital

Our first night in the hospital went well. We arrived around 7:30pm and were given our own (small) room to start cervadil, which is supposed to help soften and dilate the cervix. We had a great nurse named Ashley, and I cringed when she told me that she would be putting in the IV that night. A lot of people I've talked to said the IV was the most painful part of their (medicated) delivery, so I wasn't looking forward to it, but I survived it without fainting and it didn't hurt much at all! Yay for a great nurse!!

After the IV, the doctor came in to check me, and I was still 1cm dilated and 50% effaced, which was better than she expected. She put in the cervadil and then Jared and I put in a movie and settled in to try to get the best night's sleep possible. They only had one pillow available for us, and we forgot to bring our own, so poor Jared had to sleep with his head on a pile of blankets :( But don't worry, I sent him home early this morning to pick up the few things we forgot, like our pillows and our CAMERA! Kind of important :)

I slept OK throughout the night thanks to Ambien, but I woke up around 2am with pretty strong contractions that kept up throughout the morning (and are starting to get stronger now). At 6am we were woken up to shower, eat breakfast and move into our much bigger & nicer labor & delivery suite. It is now 7:45am and they are starting the pitocin to really get contractions going at 8am! They said that the full labor could take anywhere between 6 - 48 hours, so obviously I'm really hoping mine is on she shorter end. I'm feeling some pretty strong contractions about 4-5 minutes apart right now (which we can watch on the monitor), all on my own, so I'm hoping that's a sign that little man is ready and will give his momma a smooth delivery.

On a very important note - Happy Anniversary to my husband and best friend!!! What an awesome gift he has given me - I love you!!
