First, as I was feeding him his afternoon feeding, he stopped midway through and just stared me right in the eyes for a good 30 seconds. I said something to him like, "What are you looking at little guy?", and he responded with the biggest, most genuine smile I have ever seen! He has smiled before, but those more seemed like reflex smiles, so this felt like his first real smile. It melted my heart, and I can't wait until he starts giving us more!
Second, his umbilical chord finally fell off!! He held onto that bad boy for awhile, and it was starting to give off a foul odor, so I was thrilled when I saw it come flying off during a diaper change. A part of me was tempted to save it for his memory box, but then the rational no-crazy side of my brain threw it into the trash :)
I can't wait to watch him grow and develop over the upcoming months. Time is already flying and I find myself sad to see him start to outgrow his newborn clothes (although we are still in them :)
