At five weeks, Layne is developing beautifully and it's so much fun to watch him grow. He has finally fully graduated from his newborn wardrobe and into 0-3 month clothes...whoo hoo! Now he can start wearing all of the adorable outfits we got as shower gifts :) We continue to get little smiles out of him here and there, but they are still few and far between. He's paying more attention to his toys and tracking them with his eyes when we move them in front of his face. And the most exciting news is that he seems to have his days and nights straight - he's much more alert and staying awake longer during the day, and sleeping much longer at night. We finally transitioned him into his crib after my sisters left, which was a great idea, because he's been sleeping for 5-7 hour stretches each night!! We took the pediatrician's great advice of NOT turning the monitor on in his room at night - we're able to hear him cry when he's dirty or hungry with or without the monitor, and his little squeals and grunts only keep us up. It has been working out great and I'm still able to hear him when he needs us, just not able to hear him when he doesn't. And the sleep feels like heaven!
It is getting HOT in Charlotte, so our long walks are becoming more difficult to take. Poor Layne gets hot pretty quickly in his carseat so we don't last too long. So, we've been spending most of our days working on getting an eating & sleeping schedule set, playing with Layne's many toys, and cuddling/talking on the couch. I've started to brave taking him out in the car for little errands, but we still try to walk to get things done as much as possible.
As for Jared and I...Jared just finished his last class on Monday and has now completed his bachelor's degree!! It's been a long road and I'm so proud that he stuck to it and finished. He is extremely happy to be done and it's safe to say he's likely not going back to school anytime soon :) As for me, I started working out again on Wednesday (even though I was told to wait until 6 weeks pp), and it feels great. Also, we watched a documentary called "Fat Head" last night that talked about how bad carbohydrates really are, which I always knew, but this movie really hit home, so I'm going to be watching my carb intake as well. I have about 15 pounds to lose to get to my pre-pregnancy weight, so it's time to get serious!
