Dear Son

Well hello. There is lots to update on Layne, so I'm sorry I haven't been on here in awhile. A busy Monday morning isn't the easiest time to write an update, either, so I will have to give you all of the very interesting details of the past few weeks a little bit later (can you sense my sarcasm). In the meantime, I am working to transition all of my files to a new computer, and I came across a letter that I wrote to Layne 6 weeks before he was born. It brought a tear to my eye as it rings even more true now that he's here, so I thought I'd share. Happy Monday to all!

Dear Son,
I get to meet you in only six short weeks, and I have never been more excited for a day in my entire life. I wonder how big you will be, what you will smell like, and what it will feel like to hold you in my arms. I wonder what color eyes you will have, what you will look like, and whether will be lucky enough to have your Daddy’s good looks. I wonder how your personality will develop, and whether you will be an introverted artist with a passion for music who is “most wanted for a date” like your dad, or if you will be a social “class clown” with a perfectionist Type A personality like your mom. I think about your future and what path you will chose in life, and I pray that we have the tools to guide you in the right direction and to give you the best life that we possibly can. I hope that we lead by example to show you to be a hard working, fun-loving, down to earth and responsible person. I hope that you are open to accept love and friendship from others, and realize early on that relationships are the most important thing in life. I hope that you show others compassion and respect, and that you bring light into the lives of others. I hope that you laugh often, and make others laugh. I hope that you always look at the positive instead of the negative. I hope you find the love of your lifetime like you dad and I have. Most importantly, I hope that you follow your heart and your dreams, and that you are healthy and happy.
I feel so lucky that God has blessed us with the gift of your life, and I can’t wait to be there by your side every step of the way. I will always be your #1 fan, and I will always love you.
Love,
Mom
