Teething...round 2

While Monday mornings are horrible for blogging, Monday nights are perfect! Dinner is made, the dishes are done, my baby is in bed, my husband is watching football, and I have successfully completed a 35 minute workout AND read 10 pages of my statistics textbook. Whew. Now I'm relaxing in my "office" with a glass of wine and bowl of popcorn, which I plan to polish off in it's entirety. Life is good. Now, if I only didn't have to wake up at 5am to drive 2 hours to a meeting...

Jared just popped his head in to give me a hard time for a purchase I made today, which is the perfect segway into this blog entry. Yes folks, I will admit it, today I was so utterly desperate for relief from this second round of teething that I went to the pharmacy and baby boutique and spent around $75 on "teething cures". I bought Sophie's smaller and more attractive sister, mini sophie, a bpa free gum/tooth brush, teething tablets, gripe water, infant mortin (to alternate with the tylenol he is already getting), and...Jared's favorite...drumroll please...an amber beaded teething necklace! Apparantly amber has healing powers when worn on the skin, and many moms on the mommy message boards I read swear by them. Jared just about died when he saw Layne wearing it when he got home, and also when he saw I spent $25 on it, but I am desperate folks! At this point, I'm willing to try anything.

As you can tell, this weekend has been rough. Friday night what started as an innocent runny nose turned into full blown teething, which for Layne, meant a really stuffy nose and sore gums, and for us, meant a really crabby (read: devilish) baby who didn't want to eat or sleep and just wanted to cry...then scream...then cry some more. Poor little guy. The nurse said the top teeth can create cold like symptoms due to their proximity to the sinuses, so this is much worse than his bottom teeth. I hope they cut through soon!

Other than the recent teething meltdowns, he has been doing great. We have been putting our feet in the water with this "cry it out" method, but quite frankly I hate it and refuse to do it if he's crying hard. But luckily, I don't have to, because he's been much easier to get down to sleep lately and has even put himself to sleep when laid down in his crib awake. We've noticed that he really needs his 16 hours of sleep to be happy, and since we've been getting him down for a nap before he gets overtired he has been much happier. He is pretty regular with four 45 minute to 1 hour naps per day, followed by a 7pm bed time and 7am wake time (usually with a quick 4am feeding). It works for all of us and Jared and I like having our alone time back at night to veg out & just be us again.

We are SO HAPPY with our nanny, and now that she & Layne are comfortable with each other, it is such a breeze and he absolutely loves her. She takes great care of him, is super sweet and very helpful...I haven't emptied my dishwasher or done Layne's laundry in almost a month now and it's amazing!! Nannies are the way to go.

And in case you were wondering, no, Layne hasn't fully roled over on his own yet!! He definitely tries, but just hasn't gotten there yet. This anticipation is killing me!!

And now I present...my little bugger-oonie-boonie...
