First Ultrasound

Today was the big day! In spite of the long wait in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, Jared and I were thrilled to get to see our baby for the first time today. Initially the doctor was only going to schedule us for one 20-week ultrasound, but I managed to talk him into giving us one this week so we could feel good about telling our families the news.
So with that, we would like to introduce the newest addition to our family! The moment we saw the image on the screen and saw/heard the heartbeat (at a normal 165 BPM), it finally felt real, and we were in love. We were joking around with the ultrasound tech that baby looks like a little gummy bear with a backpack J S/he is even about the same size as a gummy bear, at 8.5cm long. Wonder if it’s pink or blue!

With the ultrasound came a couple of slight surprises: the baby measured at 8 weeks 3 days, which is about 6 days behind what we expected. Our adjusted due date is 4/20/12…we just might get our anniversary baby! Also, the ultrasound tech found a collapsed cyst on my right ovary, which is pretty common, but can make getting pregnant more difficult as that ovary doesn’t function while the cyst is present. All the more proof that this baby was in God’s plan for us.
