One Perfectly Scary Saturday

On Saturday Jared & I had a pretty spooky day: partly intentional, partly unintentional.

We started the day with a hike through Charlotte's Ribbonwalk Forest, which was absolutely beautiful. It was a perfect 70 degree day, so we were surprised to be the only car in the parking lot at the start of the trails. About 15 minutes into the hike, we realized it was a REAL hike, with hard to define trails through brush and fallen logs (we really were in the middle of the deep woods)! As soon as I mentioned, "Wow, this is how horror movies start," almost on cue, we heard what sounded like dogs barking in the distance. Wolves? We're not sure. We almost turned around to go back, but decided to tough it out and found some "walking sticks" for protection.

For the next hour and a half, we enjoyed the gorgeous walk (through what we weren't sure were real trails or not), but were both a little nervous that we would get eaten by wolves or get lost without food or water. We did make it out (obviously), and I think we both kissed the car when we saw it.  It was pretty exciting!

Later that night, we went on a ghost tour of a real historic plantation, the Latta Plantation, which was built in the early 1800s. It was by far the best Halloween experience we'd ever had, as we were a part of a small group led by a guide to tour the plantation, at night, by candlelight (since there's no electricity). The guide told real-life ghost stories that have happened in each room to current volunteers and employees. We even got a paranormal experience out of it: when the group was upstairs in the kid's bedroom, we heard a loud rapping come from the room below us. One of the guides went to check it out while the other went on with their story, and came back to have found nothing. It didn't seem like they planted it, and even Jared started to get creeped out!

I heart Halloween.
