This has been an exciting week at home. My mom and step-dad got into town on Sunday, so we've had fun hanging out with them, showing them around Charlotte and introducing them to their first grandson. On Sunday we were brave enough to take Layne out of the house and go sit on Caribou's patio and for a long walk. The doctor said we are OK to take him anywhere, within reason, as long as he won't be in huge crowds (especially with kids) and we aren't letting people hold/touch him.
Layne is starting to get on a schedule, and for the most part we're going three hours between feedings. He is also getting much better at night, and last night he went four and then five STRAIGHT HOURS without needing to get up to eat. That means I got 9 hours of sleep, which felt like heaven! He is such a good baby and only fusses when he's hungry or needs to be changed. He also has some awesome alert moments and it's so much fun to watch his many expressions. To us he is the cutest baby in the world and we've been spending most of our time cuddling him and taking pictures :)
Layne had a big day yesterday. He had his one-week doctors appointment, where we found out he has already gained 15oz since we left the hospital last week, and he's up to 7lbs 7oz! The doctor was thrilled, and said at this point most babies are lucky to have gained their birth weight back. Most babies gain 1oz per day, so that means Layne has gained TWICE the weight of an average baby. I'm really happy that breastfeeding seems to be working well for both of us. After the doctor, we went in to have some professional newborn photos taken. I can already tell they are going to be adorable and can't wait to see them next week!
Here are some recent pictures of our little guy.
